PM Coordinator Environmental Services Technician (Internal Candidates Only)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Environmental Services Lead Technician provides day-to-day coordination, guidance, and hands-on support for Environmental Services staff to help ensure a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, staff, and providers. The Lead Technician serves as a role model and operational resource during assigned shifts by coordinating work priorities, supporting staff coverage, training team members, completing quality inspections, monitoring supplies, and performing Environmental Services duties. The position supports cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, regulatory readiness, patient flow, and the patient experience. Leadership scope: This is a working lead position and is not a formal supervisory role. The Lead Technician may assign and redirect daily work, provide real-time coaching, conduct inspections, support onboarding, and communicate operational or performance concerns to the Environmental Services Manager. Hiring, formal performance evaluations, corrective action, compensation decisions, and other formal personnel actions remain with department leadership

Compensation:

  • $2.00 added to wage

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead, guide, and support Environmental Services staff during assigned shifts to ensure work is completed accurately, safely, respectfully, and on time.
  2. Review daily priorities and assign or adjust cleaning coverage based on patient census, room-turnover needs, call-ins, emergencies, special projects, and other department priorities.
  3. Serve as the point of contact for day-to-day Environmental Services needs when the manager is not immediately available, while escalating significant staffing, safety, performance, or operational concerns to department leadership.
  4. Conduct brief shift huddles and maintain open, professional communication with the Environmental Services Manager regarding staffing, quality findings, service needs, changes, barriers, and follow-up items.
  5. Perform routine, discharge, transfer, isolation, terminal, and project cleaning in patient rooms, procedure areas, restrooms, public spaces, offices, and support areas according to hospital policy and approved procedures.
  6. Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, patient care equipment, beds, furniture, fixtures, floors, and assigned areas using approved chemicals, equipment, dilution requirements, and dwell/contact times.
  7. Follow and model infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, isolation precautions, safe handling of contaminated materials, waste procedures, and linen handling.
  8. Complete and document daily room or area inspections and quality rounds to verify cleanliness, safety, supply levels, and compliance with department and organizational standards.
  9. Provide real-time feedback and supportive coaching when work does not meet standards; recognize strong performance and promptly elevate recurring or significant concerns to the manager.
  10. Support the onboarding and training of new employees and the continued development of current staff, including cleaning procedures, equipment use, chemical safety, waste handling, linen handling, customer service, and assigned Lippincott training completion.
  11. Help develop, organize, and complete deep-cleaning plans, scheduled project work, and special cleaning assignments.
  12. Respond promptly to spills, service requests, patient room turnovers, emergency cleaning needs, and time-sensitive assignments; communicate completion status to nursing or other designated staff as appropriate.
  13. Collaborate professionally with clinical and non-clinical departments to address and resolve Environmental Services-related needs while supporting patient flow and a positive patient experience.
  14. Monitor inventory and prepare supply or equipment requests; support accurate stocking, safe chemical storage, equipment checks, and organization of Environmental Services work areas, the department bulletin board, and breakroom.
  15. Operate and care for Environmental Services equipment, including carts, vacuums, automatic scrubbers, carpet extractors, wet/dry vacuums, and floor-care equipment, as assigned.
  16. Handle regular waste, regulated medical waste, sharps containers, recyclables, and soiled linen according to hospital procedures and safety requirements.
  17. Assist with immediate call-off coverage and continuity of operations within established department procedures, including helping identify available coverage and performing assigned work as needed.
  18. Document completed work, inspections, room turns, project cleaning, training, and other required records accurately and timely.
  19. Identify and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, equipment concerns, supply shortages, infection prevention concerns, and operational barriers to the appropriate leader or department.
  20. Maintain confidentiality and follow hospital policies, including HIPAA, infection prevention, safety, workplace conduct, and customer service standards.
  21. Support regulatory survey readiness, infection prevention audits, safety inspections, drills, in-services, and quality improvement initiatives.
  22. Perform other related duties, projects, and assignments within the scope of Environmental Services as directed by department leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required):

  1. Previous Environmental Services, housekeeping, janitorial, hospitality, or healthcare cleaning experience required; hospital or healthcare experience preferred.
  2. Ability to follow written and verbal directions, policies, procedures, schedules, and safety requirements.
  3. Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, disinfectants, chemical safety, personal protective equipment, and cleaning equipment.
  4. Ability to maintain confidentiality and communicate professionally and respectfully with patients, visitors, staff, and leadership.
  5. Strong attention to detail, dependability, teamwork, and the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  6. Basic computer or mobile-device skills for schedules, work orders, training, inspections, or documentation systems.

ADDITONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Previous lead, trainer, preceptor, or informal leadership experience.
  3. Experience with healthcare cleaning standards, isolation precautions, floor care, quality inspections, and staff onboarding

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Medium to medium-heavy according to Livingston HealthCare’s physical demand classifications. Although on occasion an employee may be required to lift, carry, push, or pull objects or patients heavier than said classification, with or without assistance. Occasionally required to walk or stand for extended periods of time.

MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT:

Frequently required to operate electrical and mechanical cleaning equipment. Use of a computer or mobile device is required, with competency training provided or required. Equipment may include carts, vacuums, automatic scrubbers, carpet extractors, wet/dry vacuums, floor-care equipment, and other department tools.

EXPOSURE:

Frequent exposure to cleaning chemicals, moving objects, confined spaces, slippery surfaces, varying temperatures, noise, infectious materials, unpleasant odors, blood and body fluids, regulated medical waste, and frequent interruptions.
