JOB SUMMARY:

The Level I Health Information Technician performs clerical functions necessary to the operation of the Health Information Department. To collect, maintain, and make available to authorized users timely, accurate, and complete patient health information. Prioritizes, locate, pull, electronically track, scan, and sees to the appropriate transport of records requested by other departments/LHC staff members in accordance with established standards.

• 0.8FTE (32 hours)
• Mon-Thurs
• 8:00am-5:00pm

Compensation:

• $21.20/hr +DOE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Scans paper documentation into electronic medical records.
2. Pick-up & distribute charts and loose sheet from all areas in the hospital and/or clinic settings.
3. Check-in charts.
4. Answer incoming calls to Medical Records Department and/or Clinic.
5. Route incoming mail and stamp outgoing mail.
6. Process walk-in requests and faxed requests for copies of medical records.
7. Pull and deliver charts for current in-house or surgery patients.
8. File charts accurately.
9. Sort and file loose sheets accurately and in accordance with established criteria for paper and electronic scanning.
10. Maintain Supply Cupboard and orders supplies when needed.
11. Distributes daily computer reports as appropriate.
12. Assists other medical record staff when required/requested.
13. Identify files for off-site storage.
14. Crossed trained to perform specific HIT II job functions, duties and responsibilities. Demonstrates attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Attends orientation and other compliance/privacy/security/educational sessions.
2. Maintains strict adherence to confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
3. Participates in continuous quality improvement.
4. Performs other duties as required or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required):

1. High school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
2. Knowledge of basic office functions.
3. Good verbal and written skills with attention to detail.
4. Must treat patient, employee, clinic and hospital information as confidential.
5. Positive attitude and flexibility, team player, cooperative, and customer focused.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Previous office or medical experience.
2. Knowledge of medical terminology.
3. Mature personality with sense of responsibility and integrity.
