Coder - Level I

Department: Health Information Management
Location: Livingston, MT

JOB SUMMARY:

The Level I Coder (clinic and outpatient) performs the coding functions necessary to the operations of the Livingston HealthCare Medical Records Department. Codes clinic and outpatient claims in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations. Must have working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10-CM coding guidelines.

Schedule:

  • 1.0FTE (40 hours)
  • Mon-Fri
  • 8a-4:30pm

Compensation:

  • $23.82/hr +DOE
  • Robust Benefits Package

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Codes clinic and outpatient encounters in accordance with current CPT and ICD-10-CM guidelines.
  2. Charges capture analysis prior to releasing account, and reports charge corrections to clinic or outpatient departments for education and resolution.
  3. Conducts record analysis for coding purposes in accordance with medical staff bylaws and state and federal regulations.
  4. Reports to physicians, medical records manager, and/or coding educator on missing documentation as appropriate.
  5. Ability to maintain or exceed departmental productivity standards plus meet turnaround time guidelines to assure timely processing to the Business Office.
  6. Assist in the compliance auditing and data collection in support of the Livingston Healthcare’s Compliance Quality initiative.
  7. Completes mandatory coding training as required for position.
  8. Serves as educational resource for clinic departments physicians and assist with clinical documentation improvement efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required):

  1. High school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  2. Medical terminology working knowledge
  3. Previous healthcare office or medical experience.
  4. Minimum 1 year outpatient coding experience or applicable education.
  5. Excellent communication skills to include oral and written comprehension and expression.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains strict adherence to confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  2. Participates in continuous quality improvement.
  3. Performs other duties as required/requested.
