Pharmacy Technician (PRN)

Department: Ancillary Services
Location: Livingston, MT

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of a pharmacist, the pharmacy technician performs pharmacy-related functions, in compliance with department policies and procedures that provide optimal pharmaceutical care.

Schedule:

  • PRN
  • Variable Shifts and Hours

Compensation:

  • CPhT - $25.25/hr + DOE
  • PRN Differentials
  • Shift Differentials

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Rotate through all work areas of the pharmacy
  2. Prepare medications and supplies for dispensing, including:
  3. Repackaging bulk medications
  4. Sterile IV compounding including chemotherapeutic agents
  5. Non-sterile compounding
  6. Prepare prescriptions for outpatients
  7. Operate Automated Dispensing Cabinet – stocking, auditing, troubleshooting, reporting, manage outdates
  8. Deliver and maintain medication inventory in nursing units and clinic locations
  9. Maintain and audit controlled substance inventory
  10. Maintain medication and supply inventory in the pharmacy
  11. Support medication bar code system
  12. Assist in training new employees
  13. Assist other pharmacy technicians
  14. Coordinate insurance billing including third party prescriptions
  15. Triage telephone/window inquiries.
  16. Maintains a clean and safe environment.
  17. Displays professional attributes including but not limited to, punctuality, professional demeanor and presentation; cooperation with peers, other healthcare workers and patients.
  18. Actively participates in Performance Improvement.
  19. Accepts accountability for own actions.
  20. Support of 340b program operations and compliance

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Floats to other departments as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required):

  1. At least 18 years of age.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent degree.
  3. Valid state pharmacy technician in training certificate for State of Montana.
  4. Must obtain pharmacy tech certification within 1 year of hire.
  5. Ability to treat all information as confidential.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Previous experience in hospital pharmacy, not required
  2. National certification required.
